The move stems from DeepSeek's DeepSeek-V3 model released in January this year, which cost only about $6 million to achieve comparable performance to US competitors, raising national security concerns. The US Congressional Select Committee on China has accused DeepSeek of secretly leaking US user data and possibly using about 60,000 Nvidia chips, including 20,000 export-controlled chips, to train its model.
