A judge on Thursday rejected most, but not all, claims against high-profile celebrities who had been sued for promoting the failed cryptocurrency exchange FTX. In an opinion filed on Wednesday, US District Judge K. Michael Moore said FTX investors who took legal action against the celebrities had failed to prove that the stars knew that the exchange's operations relied on fraud.
Among the celebrities indicted are the sports stars Tom Brady, Stephen Curry and Naomi Osaka, the Golden State Warriors basketball team, the comedian Larry David and the "Shark Tank" judge Kevin O'Leary.
Referring to the celebrities, the judge said: "While this behaviour shows that the defendants were unaware, negligent or even reckless, it does not show that the defendants were aware of FTX's fraud or that they had the necessary intent to defraud or defraud investors."
