After US prosecutors sought a three-year prison sentence for Binance's founder, Changpeng Zhao, issued an apology letter in which he apologized for the bad decisions of the past and accepted all responsibility, according to the CourtListener database. In the letter, Zhao Changpeng said that he should focus on addressing Binance's compliance issues from the beginning. He admitted that he had made mistakes in the past by not establishing the necessary compliance measures to regulate Binance, but also said that "Binance has implemented the strictest anti-money laundering controls of any non-US exchange since 2022". Zhao Changpeng said that his previous willingness to plead guilty was in the hope of completely solving the problem in front of the court, correcting the mistake and starting the next chapter of his life. In the future, he hopes to focus on two things, investing in biotech startups and education. (interface)
