Mark T. Uyeda, Commissioner of the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC), spoke at the Tokenization Roundtable on May 12 in Washington, D.C., calling for transparent, predictable regulatory environments for real-world asset tokenization. Uyeda emphasized that blockchain technology has the potential to significantly change the way financial marekts operate, including improving asset liquidity, reducing intermediary delays, and lowering transaction costs. He said the SEC should proactively develop policies that adapt to new technologies, rather than shy away from regulatory responsibilities because existing frameworks do not apply.
