Trump: Walmart should not blame tariffs for price increases

President Donald Trump said Walmart should stop blaming tariffs for price increases. "Walmart should stop putting price increases on tariffs. Walmart made billions of dollars last year, far more than expected," Trump tweeted on the Truth Social platform on Saturday. "As some have said, Walmart should'digest these tariffs on its own 'instead of charging valuable customers anything extra. I'll be watching, and so will your customers!!!" Walmart recently reported another quarter of solid sales and earnings growth, but also warned that tariffs and growing economic turmoil meant even the world's largest retailers were expected to raise prices. John David Rainey, chief financial officer, said of the price increase in an interview on Thursday: "If you haven't noticed it yet, it will happen in May and then it will become more obvious."
