Vitalik Buterin published a proposal to adjust the Ethereum scaling roadmap on May 19, focusing on the concept of "partially stateless nodes", which aims to balance the contradiction between network scaling and node decentralization. The scheme allows users to run nodes that store only partial state data, while maintaining trustless, censorship-resistant, and privacy-friendly local access. The proposal also prioritizes the full deployment of EIP-4444, reducing the storage period of node data to about 36 days, significantly reducing disk space requirements. At the same time, it is recommended to build a distributed historical storage solution and adjust the gas pricing mechanism to increase storage costs and reduce execution costs. This adjustment is expected to ensure the viability of individual nodes and maintain the decentralized nature of the Ethereum network even if the L1 gas limit is increased by 10-100 times.
