On May 21, it was reported that an American tourist lost more than $123,000 in cryptocurrency in a suspected premeditated theft in London's West End after a short stop in the city and a night out. Jacob Irwin-Cline, from Portland, Oregon, called an Uber after leaving The Roxy, a nightclub in Soho, around 1:30 a.m. on May 9, while he was on a two-day layover. A driver learned his name from an app and stopped him at the scene, the police said. Irwin-Cline then asked to see CCTV footage from the nightclub that showed him in a dark-colored sedan, not the Toyota Prius shown on his Uber app. The driver then handed him a cigarette, presumed to contain a sedative. Under the influence of the drug, Irwin-Cline inadvertently revealed the unlock password of his mobile phone and allowed the other party to enter his encrypted account. He was later dumped in an unfamiliar part of London. Police later confirmed that the attacker directly accessed his encrypted wallet after forcing a login to his Revolut account.
