The governor of the Bank of Korea will meet with the governors of commercial banks to discuss stablecoins

According to Newsis, Bank of Korea (BOK) Governor Lee Chang-young will meet with commercial bank governors at the Central District Bank Hall in Seoul on the 23rd of this month and is expected to discuss the issue of a won-based stablecoin issuance. The meeting will be accompanied by Deputy Governor Park Jong-woo, who is in charge of monetary policy and financial marekt.
Previously, the Bank of Korea was cautious about the issuance of Korean won stablecoins by the non-banking sector due to the weakening effectiveness of monetary policy and financial stability risks.
