Francois Philippe, Canada's finance minister, said his country could negotiate a better trade deal with the Trump administration than other countries, rejecting suggestions that Canada might have to accept new benchmark tariffs on all its exports to the US. "We import more from the US than Japan, the UK and France combined, so we are not in the same camp as other countries," Mr. Philippe said. "The competitiveness of North America depends on the relationship between Canada and the US, which is rich in key minerals and energy, has deeply integrated supply chains and is the largest supplier of aluminium to the US." On the digital services tax, Mr. Philippe rejected suggestions that it could be reintroduced at a later date.
