On April 15, Canada's Treasury Department today announced new measures for Canadian businesses and entities affected by the Canada-U.S. tariff dispute. First, it announced a performance-based relief framework for automakers, designed to incentivize automakers to continue manufacturing and investing in Canada. Given the integrated nature of the North American automotive industry, < b > this move will allow manufacturers who continue to produce vehicles in Canada to import a certain number of U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (CUSMA) compliant vehicles assembled in the United States into Canada without paying the counter-tariffs already imposed by Canada. Second, Canada's Treasury Department announced that it will grant a six-month temporary tariff exemption on goods imported from the United States for manufacturing, processing, and food and beverage packaging.
