SEC and Winklevoss Gemini Trust to Discuss Litigation "Solutions"

On April 2, the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) told a New York federal court that it wants to "explore potential solutions" to settle its lawsuit against Gemini Trust, a crypto exchange owned by the Winklevoss twins. The SEC and Gemini Trust jointly requested a 60-day extension of the civil lawsuit on Tuesday. Gemini had agreed to pay $5 million to settle with the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) before Trump took office in January.
The SEC sued Gemini in 2023, accusing the exchange and crypto lender Genesis Global Capital of illegally raising billions of dollars in crypto assets through the "Gemini Earn" program. Last year Gemini agreed to return at least $1.10 billion to customers in a separate settlement with New York state regulators. The Trump administration has now withdrawn enforcement actions against several crypto companies.
