Ledger scammers are sending postal mail to steal mnemonics

There have been recent offline phishing scams targeting Ledger hardware wallet users. The scammers ask victims to verify the mnemonic through postal letters. On April 29, technology commentator Jacob Canfield exposed a fake "Ledger Security Update Notification" letter on the X platform, which contained a QR code with a brand logo and induced users to enter a 24-word recovery phrase. Ledger officials responded immediately and stressed: "We will never ask for mnemonic words in any way".
The fraud may be related to the Ledger user data breach in July 2020, when the names, phone numbers and addresses of over-270,000 users were exposed by hackers. In 2021, it has been reported that some users received counterfeit hardware wallets pre-installed with malicious software. Experts warn: Any request for mnemonic words is a fraud, and physical isolation is the core security advantage of hardware wallets.
