Telegram co-founder Pavel Durov was due to attend the Oslo Freedom Forum in Oslo, Norway, but a French court has rejected his request to leave the country. Organizer Human Rights Foundation (HRF) said Durov will deliver the keynote speech live online.
Durov refused to cooperate with public accusations that French intelligence chief Nicolas Lerner had asked him to ban conservative political content ahead of Romania's presidential election, saying the move was "undermining democracy in the name of democracy".
He stressed that Telegram would not censor political speech in any market and said it would opt out if pressured to do so. "We have not blocked protesters in Russia, Belarus or Iran, and we will not do that in Europe," he said.
