Crypto KOL Phineas. SOL published on the X platform to disclose that four of its wallets were hacked and lost a total of 118 SOL. It is reported that the hackers broke into the Phantom extension and somehow obtained the private keys of all wallets and emptied the funds in the wallets. Phineas. SOL disclosed that the only recent installation is the old version of "MW3" game installed through Steam, which may contain malicious software carriers in the wallet.
Beau, head of security at Pudgy Penguins, explains that protecting crypto wallets on gaming PCs is suicidal given how often games/mods are downloaded and should be encrypted using a dedicated computer. Alternatively, a better approach is to use a hardware wallet to keep keys offline, or use MPC/multi-signature to reduce single points of failure.
